Why Professional Skincare is Better According to a Licensed Esthetician

The skincare market can be extremely overwhelming and confusing. Not only are there tons of skincare products to choose from, but they are not all created equally. It can be difficult to understand the differences in price and quality of carrying products. Pomp only recommends high quality and professional grade skincare, and as a Pomp Esthetician, I want to explain why professional grade products are superior to cosmeceuticals…

The Overview of Manufacturing and Production of Skincare

Over-the-counter (OTC) beauty products, cosmeceuticals, are mass-produced. They are meant to be placed on the shelves of grocery and cosmetic stores to be purchased by consumers. On the other hand, professional-grade skincare products, pharmaceuticals, are produced in small batches. They are sold first to spas and medical skincare facilities to be sold to clients working with a skincare professional

The reason this matters is because since consumers are buying products in stores and often times self-diagnosing ways to treat their skin concerns, the products sold in stores are less concentrated the client’s best interest. This is why professional skincare product lines create high value products. They know that their consumers are working with professionals who are providing guidance to their clients and can therefore formulate at higher concentrations.

Quality Ingredients and Concentration of Ingredients in Skincare

Professional skincare has a higher concentration of ingredients. Highly concentrated skincare is much more effective than OTC products. OTC products are formulated with lower concentrations of active ingredients and with fillers that dilute the formulation.

Another way professional products achieve results is through molecular technology. Professional skincare lines make sure that their active ingredients are the right molecular size to actually penetrate and make changes from within the skin rather than just superficially. As an esthetician, I highly recommend professional products to everyone looking to improve their skin concerns.

Skincare Price Points: Know What to Look For

At first glance, professional skincare does cost more. This is why many opt for cheaper OTC options.

First, it is important to note that there is a reason professional products cost more. It is because they are made with higher-quality ingredients. Higher quality ingredients cost more to formulate with and formulating them correctly also takes time, money, and resources contributing to the price.

However, because these products are formulated with higher concentrations of quality, active ingredients and without filler ingredients, this means that you don’t need to use as much of the product. So even though professional skincare is pricier at first glance, they will last you much longer than OTC products. You will end up spending more money repurchasing those OTC products that you are overusing and are still missing your desired skin results.

Professional-grade skincare will make lasting changes to the health of your skin, treat your concerns, and will even save you money in the long term.

Remember, skincare is not an expense it is an investment!
